Cwm y Glo is a peaceful village that was bustling when quarrying at Dinorwic was at its height.

Although the word coal (glo) appears in the name of the village, there was never any mining done here. The most likely explanation for the inclusion of “glo” in the village’s name is that once wood was cut further up the valley and carried down the river to Cwm. At the time there was a small port where the school yard is located now. Wood was brought there to be burnt and made into charcoal, hence the coal from charcoal.

The village is located on the A4086 between Llanrug and Llanberis.
