Dominating southern Snowdonia, the Cadair Idris range offers mountain walking and scrambling that is just as challenging and scenic as its more famous northern relatives.
It is actually a collection of four peaks, these being Penygadair (893m), Cyfrwy (811m), Mynydd Moel (863m), and Mynydd Pencoed (791m) that collectively provide a dominating ridge as seen from the north on the Mawddach Estuary at Barmouth.
The view of Llyn Cau below the summit of Penygadair is probably one of the most beautiful sites in Snowdonia. It is a classical glacial cwm lake. It has been the inspriation of many painters.
